Wanneroo Horse & Pony Club were represented by five ambitious athletes at the 2023 Pony Club WA State Tetrathlon Championships on the 25th and 26th March. Ruby Luty, Sara Scott, Molly Hill and Abigail Hill made up the four-person team in the 60cm Championship class, playfully named “Blood, TET and Tears” by team manager Angela Homann. Megan Watson and Seren Esposito put in stellar performances for their composite teams of riders for 1st and 3rd place respectively.
The girls began training early in January and put in a tremendous level of commitment and effort in training for all phases of a Tetrathlon, which sees athletes compete against each other in swimming, shooting, running and XC. With little to no experience of Tetrathlon between them, the girls were certainly made acquainted with some of the highs and lows of competition over the two days, but they persevered with grit and determination, and the team spirit and sportsmanship was nothing short of outstanding.
In between all the tough stuff, the girls had an amazing time with their teammates exploring the Swan Valley Pony Club grounds, hanging off monkey bars, lunching at the Henley Brook and lots of running. It’s not easy to express into words just how good of a time the girls had, they laughed, they cried, whooped with joy, and discovered just how awesome competing with your team can be.
Special mentions must be made to team manager Angela Homann who was easily comparable to Wonder Woman all weekend! The girls could not have asked for a more committed or involved team manager, she dried their tears, pepped up the confidence, and answered many calls of SOS to then get them all over that finish line!
It was a 3-month long preparation to get the girls there, and it was Oh So worth it! We now look forward to continuing the training toward the next one. Well done girls, you were all a credit to WHPC.
Next up… Pet Stock State Show Jumping Championships here we come!
